My girlfriend and I had the great fortune of climbing Kilimanjaro through the TK Rongai route with Franck John from 24 to 31 August 2015. Frankie was simply awesome. If it were not because of Frankie and George Mauacha (the other guide, also exceptional) we would have not managed to reach the summit. I seriously mean it.
They arrived at the hotel to pick us up (5 minutes late that is why we have rated him with a 9, hehe!), reviewed the gear we had and, from then, take care of everything so that we could just relax, enjoy and focus on climbing.
During the whole week we spent together, Franck and George were extremely attentive to our needs, kind, approachable and funny (even laughing at my terrible jokes!), quite professional and respectful. They also taught us a lot, not only about the mountain and about climbing, but also about Tanzania, Kenya, swahili (Jambo mambo avarigane!), the different tribes of the country, the masais, the food, the religion, the animals, the plants and even the politics of the country! And they were eager to learn a few words of Spanish to joke with me. This attitude was very welcomed specially because we were climbing on a private climb, and there were no other climbers to talk to.
Attention to detail was simply spectacular. Constant reminders to drink water, questions about how we were feeling, briefings about what we were going to do everyday and explanations of the plants and the geography that surrounded us.
The service provided was so exceptional that we even were a little bit embarrassed. Hot water to wash ourselves in the morning and in the evening, a private chemical WC (probably not needed but welcomed!), a tent with two foldable chairs and a table (the chairs are a bless after so many hours walking!), pop corn waiting for us when we arrived in the afternoon, hot and delicious meals (Elisante and Julius master chefs!!!), pictures and reports every day to the office of Kilimanjaro Team... We were not expecting so much luxury and at the beginning we thought it might be excessive but... how grateful we were to have those little pleasures after a few days in the mountain!
During the last day of ascension to the summit, Franck, George and Athmani (another member of the crew) were essential. They helped us constantly, not only guiding us but also encouraging us to reach the top. At a certain point of time we were exhausted and they even took our day packs (which were like 5 kgs, nothing compare to the day pack they were carrying!!!) and climbed in front of us to literally lift us up to the top. And when we reached Gilman´s point Athmani gave us some hot tea. After 6 hours climbing it was literally a game changer.
When we came down, the whole crew was there to congratulate us singing a song. It was an amazing experience! After a week of climbing, we felt so close to them that we even felt sorry to leave them... :-(
For us, Franck, George and Team Kilimanjaro were simply the perfect choice. The technical route TK Rongai made the difference helping us by acclimatizing every day a little bit.
We have not rated certain skills of Franck that we did not see (like obedience to orders, he was the chief guide!!!), and we have given him a 10 on everything but punctuality (a 9, they arrived 5 minutes late and we did not want him to have a perfect score to tease him a little bit, ok Francky Ponchy?:-). Also, we have rated him a 10 in the category Frugal with resources in the sense that he managed to do everything that was needed with the little he has, but for sure they were not frugal with the food they gave us: I got a Kilimanjaro belly!!!
We also want to thank the whole team for the kindness and their constant smiles. Thank you Franck, George, Alisanti, Franck, Josephat, Athmani, Inocenti, Carlitos (what a singer and a dancer!), Tino, Danieli, Kassmu, Julius and Abdi. We would have not made it without you!!!

Frank John was the lead guide on my recent hike up Mt Kilimanjaro. He and his assistant guide, Felix, got my friend and I to the top! We had a few issues come up along the way, and he was able to handle them well and keep on going. He was very responsive to our requests and needs while always putting safety first. I would highly recommend Frank to anyone climbing Kilimanjaro.

Team Kilimanjaro overall was also very easy to work with and able to be flexible to our needs as hikers - great job Team Kili! I'm still not sure how our cook, Elisante, made such great meals on the mountain but I'll take him camping any day!

Climbed Kilimanjaro with Frank John as our Chief Guide. Frank and his team (including Assistant Guides: Mango Sarakikya, Frank Boniface, and Cook: Elisante John), were magnificent, whether keeping us on track and at a good pace, waking us at five with a smile and warm water for washing, or bringing ginger pumpkin soup to us on the trail when we were too slow to make the lunch stop for the day.

The most amazing thing to see was the commitment of Frank, the assistant guides and the summit porters to getting our sons to the summit. Soon after starting our summit attempt on day five, Frank told us that to be successful they would have to carry the boys some of the way up the trail. And this is what they did, alternating who had a boy on their shoulders.

This dedication was evident in everything Frank and his team did. His leadership led to a very smooth experience for my family and me, allowing us to enjoy our experience and not worry about any logistics--except to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

My highest recommendations go to Frank John and Team Kilimanjaro.

As of a couple weeks ago, I can claim to have successfully completed the incredible journey towards reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, and returning safely -- and I would not have been able to do it without the help and expertise of our lead guide Frank, and his assistant Calvin.

Each day was well-planned, well-put, and well-executed as our group very quickly and comfortably settled into the groove of our 6-day trek. In reflection, it was clear to see the impact that Frank had on how perfectly our hike went. The guides cared for our health, our mood, our appetite, and our motivation with sincere enthusiasm and professionalism. They made sure that we were both physically and mentally prepared for each day that came, and put in extra effort in carrying extra supplies in case we ever needed them. We had no reservations with asking them questions, nor did they have any in candidly answering them. Frank's selected crew respected him and took care of us in the same way he did. And when it came to making modifications to our route, with respect to our health and readiness, Frank made very sound decisions and relayed them to us very effectively.

I had high expectations for this trip, and those expectations were met and exceeded -- again, thanks to our wonderful guides. Thanks Frank + Calvin! Thanks TK!

Last month, Frank successfully guided my group to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro along the TK Rongai route. The 6 day trip went above my expectations largely due to the great support from Frank as my guide. The detail and thought put into his daily briefings removed almost all of the stress from the climbing experience. He did everything he could, putting in more effort than required, to help my group reach the summit and made us feel very welcome. He was very professional throughout the entire trip and was a pleasure to talk with during the hike. He managed the team of porters and support staff extremely well throughout the trip as well. I would strongly recommend Frank and Team Kilimanjaro to anyone considering the climb.

Reading through the other reviews of Frank, I found my self agreeing with pretty much everything everyone else was saying. Thank you Frank!

I have climbed mount Kilimanjaro using the Rongai route on January 2015 with Frank.

He is a superb guide and extremely professional. He was very good at setting the pace for the group. He was permanently making sure that everybody was in a good and safe health condition to continue the climb. In addition, he would also make sure he had the right gear and appropriate clothing depending on the weather. Every afternoon he would give a briefing about the plan for the following day and answer any question the group might have.

Frank has a lot of experience and made us feel safe all throughout the trip. He is also very friendly and it was fun to talk to him while we were climbing.

I strongly recommend Frank as travel guide. He definitely made climbing Kilimanjaro an excellent experience. Thank you Frank!

I recently completed a 6 day climb along the Machame route along with two friends and we had the great fortune of having Frank as our chief guide.
We all felt extremely well cared for under his supervision, and were able to reach or goal of reaching the summit under his guidance. Throughout the trek Frank and his team made absolutely sure that we were always well prepared for the day, making sure we had eaten enough and had enough water/snacks to sustain us throughout the day's trekking. Any requests or questions we had at almost any time of the day were taken care of or answered as soon as possible and Frank, along with the assistant guide Oneal were consistently checking on our well-being (relating to altitude sickness in particular, which in the ended none of us had thanks to Frank's advice) without being too overbearing.
Frank is a highly experienced and knowledgeable guide, and possesses an extensive knowledge of the mountain, which made us all feel relaxed and safe throughout the whole trip. He also has great communication skills and a great personality all-round which strikes the perfect balance between being a friend but also a professional who is looking after clients.
I cannot stress enough how well Frank coordinated his team, solved issues, kept us safe and made sure we had a very enjoyable experience! It was a pleasure to trek with him and he's a real asset to Team Kilimanjaro. Thank you Frank!

A highly supportive and friendly guide!

Frank is an incredible guide and I am so thankful to have been given the chance to climb Kilimanjaro with him and his team.

I felt safe, relaxed and happy under Frank's guidance throughout the entire climb, making the trip extremely enjoyable and an amazing experience that I will remember forever. He is an extremely experienced and knowledgeable guide, with an extensive knowledge of the mountain. Yet, just as importantly, he is also a fun, happy and smiley person to be around! I thought he struck the balance between 'seriousness' and 'lightheartedness' absolutely perfectly.

Frank and his team could not have been more hospitable. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and it was clear that his top priority was always for the safety and well being of us an his team. He went so far beyond what I would have expected from a guide - he carried my water bottle in his bag on summit night to ensure the water didn't freeze, advised us about how and when to take diamox in order to prevent altitude sickness, carefully checked we all had appropriate warm clothing on before we set off on summit night and meticulously updated our online blog every day so friends and family could be assured of our safety and track our progress. These are just a few examples of Frank's kind nature that spring to mind, but the list could go on and on.

Frank and his team were all a joy to be around. Our assistant guide, Onael, was equally knowledgeable and helpful, our cook Elisante John completely spoiled us with delicious and nutritious hot meals 3 times a day and Frank's porters were all friendly and lovely. I'd like to say a special thank you the very charming Hamfrey Kimaro, our waiter, who's ability to deliver an impeccable service in a tent on a mountain was outstanding. I would also like to thank Stanley Nafutali Balonzi for coming to the summit with us, and helping to ensure that we got back down from the summit swiftly and safely - Stanley is clearly a very experienced porter that knows the mountain very well.

I could not recommend Frank, his team, and Team Kilimanjaro more. I have no hesitation in saying that anyone that climbs Kilimanjaro with Frank as a guide will have the most wonderful experience. Thank you Frank!

Frank was the highlight of our unforgettable trip to Kilimanjaro. We were a group of three friends climbing 6-day Machame summiting on New Years Day. At every stage of the trip, Frank went out of his way to ensure that not only we were happy, but his entire mountain team of porters and staff were happy as well. Frank was a delight to be around and genuinely fun to trek with - his knowledge of Kilimanjaro is vast and he went out of his way to tell us various stories from prior treks which were very interesting.

Frank is a great motivator and constantly looked out for our health from day 1 of the trek, ensuring that we were eating, drinking, resting and going at the appropriate pace to ensure summit success. Wherever possible he helped us to acclimatise by leading acclimatisation walks as well.

His dedication and leadership on summit night was pivotal to all three of us making it to Uhuru Peak. From ensuring that we were kept warm, helping us out every step of the way with our mountain gear and encouraging us, we felt very well looked after.

Kilimanjaro is mostly a mental challenge and having Frank as our guide filled us with confidence and by the time it came to summit, we were sure that we would make it to Uhuru Peak - and we did!

When booking a climb with TeamKilimanjaro (who run an exceptionally professional Kili climbing regime) request your guide to be Frank John :)

I am so grateful to Frank and the team that took me and my fellow climbers up the Rongai route at the end of November. Frank was an extremely professional guide who made me feel very comfortable on the mountain due to his extensive knowledge about climbing Kilimanjaro and care for the climbers.
I also found Frank to be a very appproachable and friendly guide and I enjoyed walking and discussing things with hims for many hours.
Frank's keen eye to look after our wellbeing on summit night was very appreciated, as was his singing which definitely helped us to the peak!
I had such a great experience because of Frank and the team and would reccomend team kilimanjaro. In particular, I would recommend a trek with Frank Gebra as he is such a capable, professional and also kind guide who is willing to go every extra mile for the climbers. Thank you Frank!
